Aquaphobia connects inner psychological landscapes to exterior ecosystems. Beginning in the subterranean mud tunnels of Louis Valentino Jr. Park in Redhook, Brooklyn, a morphing water microbe guides the viewer on a journey through roots, water, plants, mud, and sub-city infrastructure. The microbe recites a poem which details a troubled break-up between themselves and the viewer. The piece explores the fear of water within the context of our current ecological situation, by extending the narrative beyond the individual to humanity’s relationship to rising water levels.
