We are on a dilapidated Arctic research station. Here, a man-made creature develops feelings and falls in love. Inspired by Georg Büchner’s expressionist classic ‘Woyzeck’ and Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’, acclaimed choreographer Akram Khan has collaborated with the English National Ballet to create the haunting, dystopian performance ‘Creature’, which we experience in real time on stage with Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia (‘Amy’) behind the camera. Beautifully shot with respect for the virtuoso performances of the dancers involved, and sublimely edited with a sense of rhythm in both the bodies and the dialogue-free narrative.
