Shortly after the cardinals sent white smoke up the chimney of the Sistine Chapel, the newly appointed pope travelled to Lamepdusa, where refugees arrived in their thousands. Since then, Pope Francis has made 37 trips, visiting 53 countries, to speak on the most important issues of our time: poverty, migration, climate, solidarity and war. The Bishop of Rome has traveled to Iraq, Kurdistan, Brazil, Cuba, the United States and conflict-ridden countries in Africa. ‘In Viaggio’ is a film about the first nine years of Pope Francis’ pontificate. A travelogue composed of devotional home movies commissioned by the Vatican and new first-hand footage by the award-winning director behind films like ‘The Sea is Burning’ and ‘Notturno’.
